Practice Based Commissioning
The PBC Solution from Ardentia
The introduction of Practice Based Commissioning has completely revolutionised the way healthcare is commissioned in England. It is no longer enough simply to monitor volumes of activity handled by providers, it is vital to understand the cost impact they have.
The Ardentia Practice Based Commissioning solution has been helping our clients to deal with these issues since the system was introduced.
- The module monitors both PbR and non-PbR activity, provider by provider, specialty by specialty, consultant by consultant.
- Where it is working with MDS data from SUS, it takes responsibility for calculating the tariff values to apply to each record of inpatient (spell), outpatient or A&E data, taking account of both national and local tariffs, and include the resulting figures in reports that show both activity and cost
- In addition, it will directly load SUS PbR data so that commissioners can compare what the MDS data shows after application of tariffs with what the ‘gold standard’ of SUS PbR has established as the actual amounts payable.
- Referrals reports show where the major flows of patients are coming from and which providers are handling them, again with the associated costs, so that commissioners can ensure that they are getting the best possible value for money
- Comparison with population data allows commissioners to carry out detailed analyses of referral rates taking account of the local profile of population.
- Ardentia can also supply external benchmark data to compare what is happening to your population with activity in other parts of the country.
